Hi,ive noticed a few drops of oil coming out of the gearbox where it meets the engine, i presume its gearbox oil as its still clear and it tastes quite sweet!!!

Are there gaskets on these?

I havent had it up in the air yet to have a good look at it but i will in a day or so,as im having it off road to fit SU carb.

Cheers
Liam

where it meets the engine could mean its the gearbox input shaft seal, or the engine output shaft seal.

There isnt a gasket between the engine and gearbox, it shouldnt have any oil in there, as when theres oil in there it can get on your clutch and cause epic clutch slip and burn.

Its tricky to determine which seal it is, easiest method is to split the two and investigate, not sure on a samurai which is easier to do, either removing the engine or removing the gearbox.

90% of the time its easier to just pop the engine out and have a good look around, if its the engine you'll need to give it a big end rebuild to change the oil seal (or, if your brave just try to get a new one in, but normally you need to split the bottom end atleast)

If its the gearbox then its a bit trickier as 90% of the time you have to split the gearbox, refresh all the seals and replace the input shaft bearing and seal.

If you can determine which one it is, it may be best to use it as it is for now, buy a spare engine or gearbox and rebuild it then throw it in when time allows Smile

its prob the gearbox front seal and its easy enough to drop out the gearbox.

the front seal can be a bit of a pig to do but remember to drain the oil before you take out the gear->t/fer prop.

you can use a seal puller to get the old seal out and a new one i think just pushes straight in?
