|
|
Ive fitted a 1300 engine and 5 speed box (from an 89 Sj413) into my 1972 Firenza (previously a Vauxhall 1256cc with only a 4 speed box) , im in the process of fitting a better ratio rear axle to obtain better top end cruising speeds . ive fitted a weber 32 dgr carb - overhauled the bottom end with new shells / mains / rings etc plus new oil /water pumps/ new clutch and starter , valves reseated etc .
Even after all this - i feel its slightly underpowered , so i am considering a swap to the 1600 unit - or maybe a bigger ported head (if one is available for a 1300) plus better carb (poss a newer 32/36 weber) .
Obviously - before i go spending on a new carb / poss bigger valve head , i wondered whether a strait swap to the 1600 may be the better longer term option ?
Any thoughts / ideas would be welcomed
PS - Sorry im not a Vitara owner , but im a big fan of the Suzuki power plants - they even collaborated with Vauxhall with the rascal / carry vans and later agila / wagon r's - my conversion could be seen as one of the earliest collaborations
Cheers - Jon |

Thanks guys - im looking to keep it pretty simple , just wondered whether a Vitara 1600 swap using a new 32/36 weber would give better performance over fitting a big valve head to the 1300 (IF one is available).
Im looking at a Vit on ebay - its a 1994 1600 8v with SPI - Would i be correct in assuming the SPI unit is similar to a carb ?? if so - does the manifold allow for the weber carb like the 1300 does?
Cheers Jon |

Whilst im in inquisitive mode - would the Vitara 16v 1600 be a better option ? I presume the block is the same so just need adaptor plate to mate to my 1300 box , plus the engine mounts shouldnt be too far off from the 1300.
I would not want any efi - so would the only problem be in obtaining an inlet manifold to accept a weber carb , or are there any other areas i have overlooked ?
cheers - Jon |
