Hi all, having removed the rear drums on our sj to inspect the shoes etc, we had a right job getting them back on, so we used the adjuster 'cog' inside the drum to recede the pads enough to get the drum on, anyway, when we tried to move the vehicle after refitting the front brakes seem to be partially locked on, to the point where using the brake pedal is not neccesary!. we are totally stumped as to what is causing the front calipers to lock like this? any one with any ideas please get in touch!! they worked fine before we touched them, case of wish id never f*£$ing bothered!! |

Hiya John, welcome to the club.
That's a strange one you have there, the only thing I can think of its that when you backed the shoes off that compressed the rear cylinders which pressurised the system, but it really shouldn't! Did you try taking the top off the brake fluid reservoir in case it's pressurised? Still can't see that causing the problem though.
Also the laughingly called "self adjusters" on the rear brakes are naff, they never work properly, so since you've backed off the adjusters you'll probably find that the rear brakes / handbrake are now pretty poor. _________________

Thanks for the welcome, the handbrake only operates the drum on the gearbox? The pedal brake locks all four wheels.
I just checked reservoir, removed cap, no vacuum, still solid, then tried releasing bleed nipples, no excessive pressure. All was fine gill
I took bloody drums off!
Thanks for your reply mate |

Ah yes, transfer brake, much better. Mine's not blessed with one of them, gotta rely on the shyte rear drums...
Even opening the bleed nipples didn't help?? That's the end of all my theories then! Sorry mate, I'm right out of ideas now. I'm sure someone else'll be along soon _________________

Tried that,
I really appreciate your help mate, getting desperate now!
Love the little *beep* to bits, so I may just replace the bloody
lot! Mind you, knowing my luck it will still be locked!
Thanks again |
