I moved my seat back by a few inches and raised it by a few inches at the same time - it would be feasible to move it back even further but I found that amount to be more than I can use and I am 6' 1". By going back and up you get a longer leg reach than by simply going back. The problem with a simple relocation is the runners are flanged so the seat actually bolts in an unusual way and worse, the frame is asymmetric.
You do best to separate the seat from the runners. Use a couple of pieces of steel tube about 14" long (depends on how far back you want to go) and say 2"x2" section (depends if you want height) or near and bolt this to the runners. Then bolt the seat to the tube AS FAR BACK AS YOU WANT!!!!!. Get the tube from places like B&Q!!! You'll need shims to lift the seat off the runners slightly as the runners are not flat. I have used hardwood this time but previously I used steel tube. I have done this on every one of the 4 Vitaras and one SJ I have had as the height of the seat is too low even for my height and the fore and aft not enough for my long legs.
It isn't a difficult task but takes time because of the measuring etc. _________________ Do it to them before they do it to you.

I wouldn't have thought you'd need to change the subframe. There's various ways of doing it, bolt the seat on a couple of pieces of flat bar or box section and just drill the new holes where you need them.
Errrm, are you any good with a welder? _________________

That's what happens when people post the SAME (original) post in two different sections

I am 6ft 2in tall and find that the seat has plenty of adjustment in its stock position. You should think twice before you relocate any seat mountings as they will revoke your insurance if not declared. Remember manufacturers spend a lot of money crash testing vehicles to ensure that the passengers are safe. If the vehicle is strictly for offroad use do with it what you will, but if you want it to remain street legal My adviced would be to leave it alone. |
