Hi Darren
Where are you planning on fitting the socket, In the dash or in the rear of the car
The SJs have a strange wiring system but if you are fitting a socket at the front it should be fairly easy. Let me know and I will knock up a quick diagram. |

Hello Richie,
Thanks for reply.
The socket is going in the front next to the radio. I thought it would be a straight forward
swap with the old one!!!
anyway a diagram would be great
Thanks
Darren. |

If you are replacing an old socket it should be like for like. Center pin will be positive and body of socket will be negative. If its not working check your fuses first if not then you need to see where the wires run from.
The other way would be to discard the old wiring BUT ensure you cover any bare ends in case it decides to come back to life later on. Then splice into the switched positive on your radio (probably yellow) test using a 12volt bulb with one side to a good earth and the other to switched positive (bulb should light). Then connect a new earth to a good ground and jobs done if thats not clear give us a shout |

Thank you. |

The lighter lighting up on the outside with the vehicle lights only indicates the earth is good. The main feed to the socket will be a seperate feed. Firstly if the old socket is still in check the connections are clean, then you need to check for a fuse and if not run a new live feed to the socket as suggested before. Let me know |
